Rice is present in almost every meal for the indian population. In India, mostly rain-fed areas, like West Bengal, UP, and Telangana. Rice Cultivation in India is the world's second-largest rice-producing country, after China. In 2023, the total rice production in the country was approximately 1,132 lakh metric tonnes. Our country cultivates various types of rice, including Basmati, Ambemohar, and Kalanamak, which are the most popular rice varieties produced in India. Rice planting is also practised in many ways in different regions.


Method of Rice Cultivation

The traditional method of rice cultivation is popular among farmers. It is cost-effective and requires minimal labour. With the help of a cow, the field is ploughed, and the rice is planted manually.


The Direct Seeded Rice (DSR) method, aided by seeding machines, involves sowing dry or wet seeds directly in the field, regardless of whether the soil is unpuddled or puddled.

The SRI technique is a modern process of managing water, labour, seeds, and land resources.

There are also many machines for rice cultivation, which have low labour charges and save time. Some of the machines are seed drills and rice transplanters.
